Flat breads

There is a video of me making these with my kids here if you want to follow along!

The options for using these are endless - with halloumi on a BBQ (I’ve cooked them on a flat plate on the BBQ as well before), with hummus, use as a quick pizza base, enjoy with a curry (I’ve added raisins and desiccated coconut to the ingredients before for a peshwari-style naan).

Ingredients:

  • 350g plain flour

  • 350g plain yoghurt (I used soya, could use regular cow's milk or coconut yoghurt if you like)

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt (for kids each flatbread will still be lower in salt than shop bought)

  • Extra flour for dusting worktop

Method:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl

  2. Mix with a metal spoon until starting to combine and then use your hand to form the dough

  3. Tip into well floured surface and kneed it until less sticky and smooth (flour your hands to stop it sticking!)

  4. Divide into 6 equal pieces

  5. Roll each of these using a rolling pin until approx. 0.5 cm thick (roughly oval or round)

  6. Heat a griddle pan or frying pan until hot

  7. Add a little oil and then cook each flatbread. Approx. 2 mins on each side. You will see it cooking on the underside and firming up (will get a few air bubbles).
